Central Analytical Laboratories

Central Analytical Laboratories (CAL) is a leading independent South African analytical company - with laboratories in Gauteng and the Western Cape - that specialises in agricultural analyses.

Established in March 1997 with the merger of the in-house laboratories of North West Co-operative, Outspan and Meadow Feeds, CAL offers a comprehensive range of tests that meets international quality standards. The Cape laboratory was formed in 2001 through the incorporation of the Kynoch laboratory in Milnerton.

Our two laboratories analyse soil, plant material and fruit, animal feeds, water, fertiliser, lime, growth media and garden soil. We have the expertise and flexibility to review and implement other tests as requested by our customers.

CAL also offers, in conjunction with Dr Hannes Coetzee, a fertiliser advisory service for fruit, vegetable, nut and olive producers.

Our NIRS (Near Infra-red Reflective Spectroscopy) service, developed to offer the animal feed industry test results within 24 hours, includes predictive analyses of a wide range of finished products and raw materials, system management and developments as well as spectral scan collection. NIRS also has applications in other industries and CAL remains at the forefront of such developments.

The quality of CAL's analyses is regularly tested both locally and internationally. In South Africa we participate in the AgriLASA inter-laboratory control scheme, while our soil, plant and feed analyses are also monitored internationally via Wageningen and AAFCO. CAL is in the process of acquiring ISO 17025 accreditation.

We have extensive knowledge of Southern African analytical needs supported by highly trained and experienced personnel. Our clients can expect reliable and accurate analyses, expert advice and a professional service. We are independent and guarantee complete confidentiality of all analytical results.
